MDOT's Highways and Local Names
A Web link designed to help motorists locate the local names of state trunkline roads and highways (M, I and US roads). The link provides users with a database of more than 3,000 records, listed in numerical order by MDOT region. Each entry is then displayed by highway number, local name and county. A color-coded map makes it easy to locate regions. The database also can be sorted by county.

The Department of Transportation was established by an act of Congress on October 15, 1966, the Department’s first official day of operation was April 1, 1967. The mission of the Department of Transportation, a cabinet-level executive department of the United States government, is to develop and coordinate policies that will provide an efficient and economical national transportation system, with due regard for need, the environment, and the national defense. It is the primary agency in the federal government with the responsibility for shaping and administering policies and programs to protect and enhance the safety, adequacy, and efficiency of the transportation system and services.

A
non-partisan policy research center created to serve the needs of communities
and transportation organizations nationwide. The purpose of the Center and
their website is to provide research materials, strategies and other forms of
support on the benefits of public transportation.
In January, 2000, the Interurban Transit Partnership (ITP) was formed by the cities of Grand Rapids, East Grand Rapids, Grandville, Kentwood, Walker, and Wyoming under the Act 196 of the Public Acts of the State of Michigan. The ITP was formed to allow for a much needed expansion of public transportation in the Greater Grand Rapids area. The current ITP service area comprises approximately 452 square miles and has an estimated population of 420,000.
