and ideas,
and promote cooperative solutions to regional

About
the West Michigan Regional Planning Commission
The WMRPC, also known as Region
8, is one of Michigan’s 14 regional planning organizations. The WMRPC was
organized in 1973 under Michigan’s Regional Planning Act (P.A. 281 of 1945, as
amended). The WMRPC serves communities in Allegan, Ionia, Kent, Mecosta,
Montcalm, Osceola, and Ottawa Counties. Members of the WMRPC include:
Allegan County
Ionia County
Mecosta County
Montcalm County
Osceola County
Ottawa County
City of Big Rapids
City of Cedar Springs
City of Grand Rapids
City of Wyoming
Each of the members appoints
two officials to serve on the WMRPC Board. Additionally, there are two standing
committees that include the Executive Committee and the Comprehensive Economic
Development Strategy (CEDS) Committee.
The primary focus areas of
the WMRPC include Transportation Planning, Economic and Community Development,
Land Use Planning, Data Compilation/Analysis, and promoting cooperation among
communities.

The WMRPC is available to
assist communities with their planning and community development requirements.
Available resources include U.S. Census and other demographic information,
mapping capabilities, facilitation skills, plan preparation (land use, master,
recreation, etc.), identifying funding resources, planning literature, and many
other resources specific to Region 8’s communities.
